"Odin with Sleipnir"

A beautiful Open Edition Giclee reproduction of "Odin with Sleipnir" by artist Carol Phillips. This artwork was painted for the 78 tarot deck 78 tarot - Mythical, but it stands on its own as a wonderful illustration of the all father Odin.

Odin is a complex god figure and could in theory represent many aspects in Tarot.  He could be the hanged man or the magician. He is a ruler and mystic, a trickster and a father.  He is many things.  I, however, have chosen to depict him as the Emperor.  He is the father of the Norse gods, and ruler of the Aesir. He incorporates both fury and inspiration . He is masculine, battle hardened and strong. He is a war god but also very intelligent. While Odin as a god himself is a much more complex character than the Emperor card depicts, the traits above are all things that I feel represent the card well. I have kept the red fire energy inspiration from the original Rider Waite Emperor card as well as the mountains in the distance. Our father Odin is ready to take on the world he holds his spear Gungnir up to the burning sky unleashing his power. He rides over the mountains on his mighty steed, Sleipnir. His wolves, Geri and Freki, run by his side.  His ravens Hunin and Munin (Thought and Memory) fly ahead, above him and aid him in the battles to come."
